Medieval Theme Wedding Invitations

Using medieval-style language on the invitations, such as “ye” and “thou” instead of “you” will evoke images of the middle Ages. Find parchment paper and use ink with a feather pen that is capable of writing calligraphy to jot down the details of the wedding. Consider adding medieval images or drawings to the invitations, and use a medieval seal on the envelope or paper itself.

Medieval Theme Wedding Dresses and Attire for the Groom

Brides should consider wearing a colorful dress, as a white wedding gown was not common for the times. Red, blue, gold and silver were popular colors. Long gowns with flowing, bell-style sleeves and drop waists should be considered also. Velvet and silk would be ideal dress materials, but any material will do.

For the medieval look, grooms should consider wearing doublets, breeches and hose, along with a cowl hat. Footwear can be boots, or simple flat shoes. Alternatively, a groom can dress as a literal knight in shining armor. Look online for reputable dealers for a knight costume, or ask at a Renaissance Fair. A tunic and leather-style armor can also be included in acceptable men’s apparel.

Medieval Theme Wedding Food and Drink

For a medieval banquet, the couple can serve a meat-laden menu (though non-meat eating guests should be remembered as well). Turkey drumsticks are popular medieval fare, as well as venison, goose, fish and mutton. Meatless fare includes cheese, nuts, fruit, bread, and desserts like custards and tarts. Typical drinks should include beer, ale, wine, mead, and water and milk for non-drinkers (non-medieval drinks like cola or juice may be served at the couple’s discretion).

Medieval Theme Wedding Decorations and Favors

Not many decorations are required for a medieval themed wedding, but some minimal and understated adornments like greenery and flowers will do wonders for a room, and if the wedding is outdoors, the decorations will already be there. For favors, consider giving velvet pouches filled with chocolate coins. Seeds honey and herbs are suggestions from Favor Ideas.

Medieval Theme Wedding Venue

A castle would be ideal for a medieval wedding. The couple can also consider the options of having an outdoors wedding, perhaps in a park, or in a clearing near a forest. Alternately, consult with any local Renaissance Fairs and enquire if they allow weddings; some do. An historic church or home will also do well as a wedding or reception venue.

Medieval Theme Wedding Activities

Plays or dancing is also popular, especially if the wedding will be outdoors.

Something old

Could be a piece of bridal jewelry that is a family heirloom.  It may come from the brides side of the family or the grooms side.  Find a piece of estate jewelry you love and adore, buy it, wear it.  You’ll keep the tradition of something old alive and well!

New is a pretty easy bill to fill.  There are thousands of online stores and brick and mortar stores offering a great mix of modern stylish jewelry that is perfect as bridal jewelry. Something borrowed

After all most brides want their look to be theirs complete with their own choices in bridal jewelry.  Remember borrowing that special piece from a friend or family member can add the finishing touches to your look and it can save you thousands of dollars.  Gemstones aren’t cheap!  And if you have no one to borrow from never fear there are many retailers that rent out beautiful estate jewelry for weddings.

Something blue

You can choose from sapphires, aqua marines, or even blue pearls to name a few.  Your blue can be bold and noticeable or it can be just a hint of blue.  Once again estate jewelry comes through.  You can find a beautiful piece of jewelry that is unique and affordable and of the highest quality by shopping for estate jewelry.
